BRO I ALTA – KONKURRANSEUTKAST
Fra platået øst for Elvebakken kirke er det et fantastisk skue ut over Altaelvas sandbanker og fjordarmen som strekker seg mot vest. Den markante moreneryggen Sandfallet former et trekantet platå øst for kirken, og fortsetter i skråning (dagens gangvei) ned til veien. Arkitekten ønsket en sammenhengende slank brobane som er en fortsettelse av moreneryggen og som avsluttes i en elegant kurve ved busslommen. En slik brobane kan konstrueres med søyler på landsidene og skråkabler over veien – en hvit betong- og stålkonstruksjon som skaper sammenheng og harmoni med kirken og som for de veifarende oppleves som en elegant skulptur. Brobane, tårn og vaiere er nærmest som en «tegning» i landskapet – ikke uten assosiasjoner til de flotte tegningene i helleristningsfeltet på Hjemmetuft.
BRIDGE IN ALTA – COMPETITION PROPOSAL
From the plateau east of Elvebakken Church, in Alta there is a fantastic view of the Alta River’s sandbanks and an arm of the fjord to the west. The prominent Sandfallet moraine ridge forms a triangular plateau east of the church and continues along the slope (now a footpath) down to the road. The architect wanted to build an unbroken and narrow floor of a bridge as a continuation of the moraine ridge that would terminate in an elegant curve at the bus bay. This sort of bridge floor could be constructed with columns on the landward sides and diagonal cables across the road – a white concrete and steel construction that would create context and harmony with the church, while drivers on the road could experience it as an elegant sculptural work. The bridge floor, tower and cables would be almost like a «sketch» in the landscape – evoking associations with the fabulous drawings in the field of petroglyphs at Hjemmetuft.
